Au Compte is about 200m above sea level, on a ridge running north to south.
Being just about the highest point in the surrounding area there are stunning views of vineyards,
plum orchards and fields of sunflowers.
The hamlet itself has just five houses and is in the commune of Loubes-Bernac (population 399)
which is in the district of Duras in the Lot et Garonne in south-west France.
It's a tranquil spot - no noise pollution and certainly no light pollution.
The stars and planets are a sight to see!
The environment abounds with wildlife. Deer, hares, the occasional wild boar, red squirrels,
pheasants - all can be seen in the area. A lot of them can be eaten too!
Overhead there are countless examples of birds of prey - you can watch them wheeling around in
the sky as you lie back in your poolside lounger.
